Another issue that was raised in the NMMC Standing Committee meet was the increase in monsoon ailments like dengue, malaria and swine flu. The issue of monsoon ailments like dengue, malaria and swine flu was taken up at the end of the meeting but the administration lacked the seriousness that the issue required. Despite the members raising concern, NMMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepak Paropkari claimed that the administration was fully prepared to deal with any incidents of malaria and dengue this monsoon. However the NMMC administration’s claims of being completely prepared are exposed by a case whereon city journalist Namdeo More’s relative suffering from dengue, failed to get the required medicines and treatment from NMMC FRU at Vashi. He informed that they had approached the hospital to get blood platelets which the civic hospital was unable to provide until the next day. Exposing the false claims of preparations made by the administration at the NMMC Standing Committee meeting, the journalist said that all the claims were hollow. He further questioned the claims of the NMMC Health department of being fully prepared when they failed to handle patients in emergencies like these. Cases of deaths due to fatal monsoon ailments aren’t anything new. Every year the NMMC administration makes tall claims of being prepared be it pre monsoon works or preparations for tackling monsoon ailments. But the truth is that despite NMMC Health Dept. spending Crores on the issue of health, their failures and hollow claims are exposed the moment Rain Gods begin to pour.
