heliport-Looks like the city’s first heliport would come up in Navi Mumbai. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation inspection reveals that the site does not require environmental clearance and that tenders for the project will be floated in June. The fast developing satellite city, Navi Mumbai is yet once again going to be known for another of its ambitious development. After world class projects like Central Park and Golf Course, looks like the city would be the first to get a heliport now, if the Directorate General of Civil Aviation report is anything to go by. For business honchos and VIPs, zipping across to Navi Mumbai would be easier than venturing into the mad rush of the island city. The city’s first heliport is all set to come up in Nerul, even as the state government had given its nod for a heliport in Nariman Point as well in January 2010. Thanks to a team from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation, who visited the site in the last week of February, the sight at Sector 30 in Nerul revealed that clearance from the ministry of environment and forests is not required for the project, virtually putting it on a fast-track. The state government is now awaiting a final permission from the Civil Aviation Ministry. Meanwhile, the Nariman Point heliport may have to wait longer as it not only falls in the CRZ, but will be partly in the sea. Both the heliports will have a parking capacity of four choppers along with ticketing points, as well as airport style eateries, if feasible. As of now, the government plans to operate them on a Build-Operate-Transfer model. Bureau report NMTV News.
