The residents of the 16 MHADA co-operative housing societies at New Tilaknagar are more than co-operative as they have agreed to vacate their homes which currently obstruct the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road. The residents living at the 16 MHADA buildings of new Tilaknagar are so impressed by MMRDA’s rehabilitation scheme that all the 344 tenements have agreed to vacate their homes. It may be recalled that these 16 MHADA buildings were obstructing work of the 6.45 km Santacruz-Chembur Link road that will connect the Eastern and Western Express Highway. The demolition will be carried out in the next 60 days after both MHADA and BMC give a no-objection certificate. some of the highlights of this rehabilitation which evolved a unanimous answer from all the 344 tenements were a ground-plus 15 storeys building in the same locality instead of the current two-three storeys, LIG section which have 192 square per feet will get 350 sq/ft, MIG will get 610 sq ft instead of 426 sq ft, HIG will get 1000 sq/ft instead of 675 sq/ft, rental expenses till building is constructed and added facilities for water, drainage, sewage disposal, electricity, electric poles etc. Learning from its past experiences of rehabilitation process, this time MMRDA has offered something that the residents cannot resist.
