The NMMC elections will be held on April 11. The dates were announced by NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata during a press conference at the civic headquarters in Belapur after receiving the schedule from State Election Commission. Jan Cabral gives us details on this report. With the upcoming municipal elections, the election code of conduct was enforced from February 25 which will remain till the counting day. As per schedule, the counting will take place on April 12. Speaking during the press conference, NMMC Commissioner Vijay Nahata informed that the nomination filing for the candidates would be between March 15 to March 22. The scrutiny of forms will take place on March 23. The candidates can withdraw their nomination forms till March 29 as on next day final list of candidates along with their election symbols will be declared. On April 11, voting centres will be open from 7.30 am to 5.30pm and 12 April the results will be declared. Altogether, 4000 people will be employed to ensure free and fair elections, he informed. He said that that to assure fair polls, people will be employed from CIDCO, Konkan Bhavan, Thane Zilla Parishad, Thane Municipal Corporation and Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. He further added that eight officials have been appointed for all eight nodes who will remain vigilant through out the period when code of conduct will be in force. To ensure fair and transparent elections, all rules and regulations will be executed strictly, he said.
