Congress demands a high-level judicial probe into all land deals in the state

The state Congress, led by former chief minister Ashok Chavan, on Tuesday demanded a high-level judicial probe into all land deals in the state. Congress general secretary Sachin Sawant said prime facie it appears that besides former revenue minister Eknath Khadse, water resources minister Girish Mahajan, state BJP president Raosaheb Danve and minister of state for home Ranjeet Patil too are involved in “illegal” land transactions.
Sawant alleged that huge tracts of land were acquired from farmers in Jalgaon for a cooperative sugar factory. While the factory never came up, part of the land is owned by Mahajan. “In his affidavit before the election commission, he failed to disclose ownership of the land. We will take up the issue with the EC and demand action.”
He also claimed that a prime plot reserved for housing for economically weaker section in Bhokardan in Jalna district has been acquired by Danve. “The chief minister must probe the land deal.”
