CONGRESS NCP GEAR UP FOR MAYOR SHRADDHA JADHAV’S OUSTER WITH A NO-CONFIDENCE MOTION NEXT WEEK

shradha-3Mayor Shraddha Jadhav will face a no-confidence motion in the civic body general meeting next week tabled by the Congress and the Nationalist Congress Party. This might just queer the pitch for the forthcoming 2012 civic elections. Mayor Shraddha Jadhav has been accused of corruption and cheating during the ward committee elections by the opposition. The parties have also raised questions over why her office is always choc a bloc with contractors who are allegedly awarded plum civic projects. Rajhans Singh, congress MLA and opposition leader said his party “will leave no stone unturned to defeat Jadhav”. He was the one to also make allegations of rigging the elections. This no-confidence motion is being seen as a litmus test for both the Congress and Shiv Sena, who are preparing for the 2012 civic polls. Senior Congress leaders are serious about moving a no-trust motion. There are also reports that the Congress – NCP have even booked some VIP suites in a Lonavala hotel for corporators. In the house of 227 corporators, the opposition needs support from at least 113 to move the no confidence motion. One of Congress corporators passed away and two Sena men were disqualified for submitting bogus cast certificates and the party reportedly has support from 109 members. The Congress – NCP will pursue independent corporators and disgruntled Sena corporators to reach the magic number of 113 in the next house meeting and they say that they are confident about successfully passing the motion.
