Knowing that the Congress and RPI had not worked for Dr. Sanjeev Naik during last May’s by polls, the NCP is making new attempts to ensure that their allies support them from grass root levels. For this a joint rally of NCP-Congress and RPI was held at Nerul. In May by polls, the result showed that the Congress and RPI had not worked for their candidate and NCP’s Dr. Sanjeev Naik. The post analysis hinted at the reason for this as the allies being upset and disappointed with the NCP leadership in Navi Mumbai. However, immediately after the elections, the NCP leadership in Navi Mumbai got to work on mending relations with the local leaders of Congress and RPI. And this time, the NCP is hoping and praying that the homework done last year reaps results on the D Day. An attempt of strengthening ties further was seen at the joint meeting of the Congress-RPI and NCP in Nerul. The meet was presided over by the candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik, MLC Manda Mhatre, Navi Mumbai Mayor Anjani Bhoir, Dy. Mayor Shashikant Birajdar, Navi Mumbai Congress Chief Namdeo Bhagat, Navi Mumbai District Chief Gopinath Thakur and NMMC Opposition leader Ramakant Mhatre. Dr. Sanjeev Naik told the party workers that the elections were not about him but about the ideology, work and progress of Dr. Manmohan Singh led UPA and the thoughts and vision of NCP Supremo Sharad Pawar. The media caught up with the candidate after the rally and asked him whether he expected his allies to work for him this time. We also spoke to the Namdeo Bhagat – who is expected to play a key role from the Congress’s side in these elections. With cameraperson Deepak Kamble, Anil More for NMTV News.
