CONSUMER AWARENESS MELA HELD AT VASHI TO MARK “WORLD CONSUMER DAY”

consumer-1The Indian Pharmaceutical Association and Food and Drug Adminsitration of Thane along with other associations organzied a “Consumer and Patients Awareness Camp and Exhibition” to mark World Consumer Day. The camp cum exhibition was held at Vashi. World Consumer Day is all about the rights of consumers – from the right to satisfaction of basic needs. the right to safety, the right to be informed, the right to choose, the right to be heard, the right to redress, the right to consumer education and the the right to a healthy environment. On these very lines, the Indian Pharmaceutical Association and Food and Drug Adminsitration of Thane along with other associations organzied a “Consumer and Patients Awareness Camp and Exhibition” to mark World Consumer Day. The camp cum exhibition was held at Vashi. The main aim of the event was to interact with consumers and inform them abou the main issues that haunt the consumer sector of the country. The top on the list is adulteration in food. Consumers were informed about the variuos ways food are adulterated and the precautions consumers must take in order to not become victims of food adulteration. Besides, this the experts also educated the audience on the different types of drugs available in the market and how to consumer them. The contact information of the Food and Drug Administration Offices where citizens and consumers can approach with grievances was also given on the occasion. Speaking to NMTV News, Ram Banarse – Asst. Commissioner of FDA, Thane said that the main objective of the camp cum exhibition is to inform consumers about adulteration in food in layman’s language. The officer also gave an insight about the need to educate consumers about the types of medicines and how to consume them.
