The proposal of building of an Exhibition Centre at the CIDCO exhibition ground is engulfed in controversies as many are protesting against the development on this 5 hectare land. If CIDCO’s plans come true, then Navi Mumbai’s biggest ground, the CIDCO exhibition ground would soon have a state-of-the-art exhibition Centre on this 5 hectare land. While tenders are received, the decision is highly being opposed. It is being stated that with rapid development of Navi Mumbai, there is no place left for holding grand religious, political and cultural meetings and CIDCO is not even sparing this land and using it for commercial benefits. MLC, Manda Mhatre and NMMC Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik too have stated that CC should not be given for this project. NMMC Opposition leader Ramakant Mhatre too expressed strong opposition in this matter and informed that they would appeal in court against this project. However, CIDCO’s Director, Namdev Bhagat does not think on the same lines. He stated that the protestors should first analyze the project and then raise opposition. According to him, lack of amenities on the vacant plot had led people to opt for private services which is also expensive and that this exhibition centre would be a great help to the people. The plan on this 74152 sq ft ground includes 19723 sq ft of Exhibition centre, 6497 sq ft for Business Centre and 52225 sq ft for parking and other activities. This exhibition centre named “Landmark” will have exhibition halls of international standards, seating capacity for 525 people, restaurants, amphitheatre, open plaza etc. To develop this exhibition centre, CIDCO would be investing around Rs 16 crores 97 lakhs.
