Corporator Divya Gaikwad exposes criminal wastage of precious water by NMMC

Trust NCP Corporator Divya Gaikwad to take on the administration and even at times her own party to ensure public issues are attended to like they must. In the last Standing Committee meeting, NCP corporator Divya Gaikwad took on the NMMC administration over the issue of water leakage in the CIDCO tanks in her ward. She took the issue when the proposal to build a power station at the water supply pump house at Sector 1 CBD Belapur. Divya Gaikwad said that she has written to the Commissioner, the Mayor and all relevant authorities in 2017 in regards to the water leakage and its been 2 years no action has been taken.

She said that her ward citizens question why NMMC does not walk its talk on saving water.

She questioned who is responsible for water being wasted for years.

She pointed out that when citizens waste water they are penalized, then who is responsible for water being wasted through the leaks in the tanks.

When Chief City Engineer Surendra Patil said that the work is in progress, she lambasted him for making an excuse of structural audit for years.

Divya Gaikwad said that delay is on purpose to which the Chairman Suresh Kulkarni ordered that the issue be addressed within 15 days.

Speaking to the media, she said that NMMC officials shouldn’t forget that their salaries are paid from the taxes citizens pay.

She said that all those holding offices for public works in NMMC are responsible for the wastage of water in her ward.

NMMC spreads the message not to waste water and take immediate action on citizens for wasting water in any way but its own officials and departments are now neglecting an issue where gallons of water is being wasted. Perhaps criminal action against responsible officials is the only way to ensure that this criminal wastage of precious water is stopped. Bureau report – NMTV News.
