The fight between NMMC administration led by Commissioner Vijay Nahata and corporators named for wastage of public funds in the case of illegal garden in Vashi’s holding pond has become public. One of the corporators on the list is Leader of the House in NMMC Vitthal More who was recently served notice to pay the money wasted. However Vitthal More says that he will not pay and if need be will even go to court. He has also blamed former Congress corporator Avinash Lad for the debacle due to which corporators are suffering today. It was a shock to see the names of senior officials figuring in the affidavit filed by Commissioner Vijay Nahata. The bigger shock was that 19 corporators including former Mayor Anjani Bhoir are also in the list of the 19 corporators responsible for wasting public taxes for making the illegal garden inside Vashi’s holding pond. Once again take a look at the corporators named for wasting public taxes : Former Mayor Anjani Bhoir Former NCP Corporator Ratna Vishwasrao Former Congress Corporator Sangeeta Sutar Former Congress Corporator Prakash Mate Former NCP Corporator Dyaneshwar Naik Former Corporator Madhavi Shinde Former NCP Corporator Kalavati Mahale Former Congress Corporator Avinash Lad who proposed the work Former NCP Corporator Usha Bhoir and from the present house in NMMC, NMMC Leader of the House Vitthal More Congress Corporator Dashrath Bhagat Congress Corporator Vilas Bhoir NCP Corporator Suresh Kulkarni NCP Corporator Ramesh Shinde and NMMC Education Committee member and former Shiv Sena Corporator Somnath Vaskar The first reaction to this affidavit has come from NMMC Leader of the House Vithal More who was recently served notice to pay his share in the money wasted in building the illegal garden. But an infuriated Vitthal More blamed the administration for it and said that he will challenge the Commissioner’s affidavit in court. He questioned why NMMC officials did not know that it was a holding pond and not a place to build a garden. He said that he will not tolerate if NMMC administration pushed the blame of the debacle on them. Leader of the house Vitthal More did not stop here but went on to say that it was only because of former Congress Corporator Avinash Lad – who proposed the illegal garden that they were all suffering. Whatever is the outcome of this outburst, the corporators-contractors-officials nexus should take this historical High Court judgment as a lesson that they cannot always get away after criminally wasting public funds.
