Till now, one thought that the battle for Thane constituency was only between NCP-Congress-RPI candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik and BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Chougule but a new colour has added to the battle for Thane – it’s from Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena. Manoj Singh and Nilofar Shaikh join us from Thane with this political update from the 15th Thane Lok Sabha elections. Ever since names of party candidates from the Thane constituency have been declared – the only reports have been of a clear battle line drawn between NCP-Congress-RPI candidate Dr. Sanjeev Naik and BJP-Shiv Sena candidate Vijay Chougule. But there might just be a twist to the tale of the royal battle for Thane constituency. And the twist comes from Raj Thackeray’s Maharashtra Navnirman Sena by way of the Rajan Raje – the candidate the party has nominated to fight the Thane constituency. The Rajan Raje factor will directly have an impact on the Shiv Sena vote bank. With Raj Thackeray stealing Shiv Sena’s thunder of being the party of the “Marathi Manoos” last year – Raj Thackeray has won the sentiments of Marathis across Maharashtra and since Thane has a strong base of this community’s voters, it could be play a decisive role on the result of the Thane constituency depending upon how many votes Rajan Raje manages to garner by making a dent in the Sena vote bank. In fact, there are some speculations that the MNS candidate is getting all the resourceful support from NCP to impact Sena votes as much as possible. NMTV News posed the question to the MNS candidate himself. Rajan Raje however rubbishes the speculations and says that Raj Thackeray’s party does not have such weak foundations to practice politics of this level. Rajan Raje also voiced confidence of a victory. The MNS candidate from Thane constituency reiterated that their main agenda is “welfare of the Marathi Manoos”. No matter, how much Rajan Raje denies but the way Raj Thackeray has planned his rallies in Navi Mumbai and Thane – with the last rally of the MNS planned at Airoli – the Raj Thackeray – Rajan Raje factor could prove to be detrimental for the Shiv Sena vote bank in Thane constituency. From Thane, with Manoj Singh, Nilofar Shaikh for NMTV News.
