There seems to be some trouble brewing for Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar as the court has summoned him in the public interest litigation filed against IPL. The Bombay High Court has directed that Union of India be made a party to the PIL filed by Shiv Sena leader Subhash Desai regarding levy of entertainment tax on IPL. The court also allowed the petitioner to make Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar a party to the case since there are some allegation against him in the petition. The PIL demands that Maharashtra government should recover entertainment tax from the organizers of IPL. The petition also alleges that the state government, in January this year, decided to levy the entertainment tax on IPL but the decision was not implemented. It may be recalled that Shiv Sena MLA Subhash Desai had also raised this issue in the house during the recently concluded State Budget Session. Speaking to the media at that time MLA Subhash Desai had said that tax should be levied on IPL. He said that a debt ridden state like Maharashtra needs every penny possible as revenue. Subhash Desai had demanded that they had gone to court so that all malpractices of the IPL become public. Meanwhile the court has adjourned the hearing till June 22.
