The residents of Kharghar celebrated Dassera with a difference. Since the day symbolizes the victory of good over evil, the residents burnt their problems to celebrate the day. On Dassera, the centuries old tradition is to burn the effigy of Ravan and celebrate the victory of good over evil. The residents of Jal Vayu Vihar at Kharghar celebrated the day in a unique way. It may be recalled that due to the apathy of CIDCO, the residents of sector 20, Kharghar are reeling under several civic problems like garbage littered in their area, irregular water supply, encroachment, mosquito menace and several diseases. The residents made an effigy of their civic problems and burnt them. The aim of the residents was to create awareness amongst the locals of the problems and motivate them to join hands to fight for these problems. To involve the children in the campaign, a painting competition on the theme “Importance of Cleanliness” was also conducted. Nearly 50 students of the area participated in the competition.
