DAV HERITAGE 2008 – A FUSION OF CULTURE AND EDUCATION

heritage4The DIEMR was established in February 2002 under the dynamic leadership of Dr. K B Kushal who is also the Regional Director of DAV Institutions in Maharashtra and Gujrat. The center constantly reinforces quality culture in education, fosters inter-institutional sharing and linkages, and brings policy makers and prominent personalities face to face with educators to share global trends and practices. Heritage 2008 – held in the national capital this time was a fusion of culture and education. Schools and colleges from all over the country participated in the event that is a grand attempt to make education truly meaningful and holistic in its approach and reach. Heritage 2008 started on a rather low note as all present first paid their condolence and tribute to the departed souls victims of Mumbai terror attacks. This was followed by a panel discussion of some of the most respected luminaries in the filed of education on the action agenda to be prepared for the implementation of “Innovations in Education”. The other dignitaries who graced Heritage 2008 with their presence included Padmashree G P Chopra – President – DAV College Managing Committee, New Delhi, Vishwa Nath – VP, DAVMC, Dr. K B Kushal – Director, DIEMR, Prabodh Mahajan – Secretary, DAV College Managing Committee, Tushar Guha – Director, Nrityanjali. History alone does not alone become heritage. Concrete, marble and symmetrical gardens are just expensive real estate if one does not feel the human touch that they have preserved. One felt that human touch at DIEMR’s Heritage 2008 when students of schools and colleges took the audience on a journey that showcased the astounding qualities of our heritage – India’s heritage that has the brilliance and ethnicity which conspires to defy time! Students of DAV colleges in the country topped the young ones performances with some plays and cultural numbers that have won top slots at university level competition. When students performed at Heritage 2008 it reminded one of what the famous writer and traveler, Mark Twain had written after his sojourn through India in 1896: “So far as I am able to judge nothing has been left undone, either by man or nature, to make India the most extraordinary country that the sun visits on his round. Nothing seems to have been forgotten, nothing overlooked. It was best, he decided, to simply call India – the Land of Wonders.” Another highlight of Heritage 2008 was the Kavi Sammelan and poets meet that saw participation of eminent poets Mumtaz Rashid (2nd from left), Sampat Saval (4th from left), Hasan Kazmi (1st from left) and Mumtaz Naseem (only lady). Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal, Chairperson of Adani Group Preeti Adani, the very popular Shabana Azmi and Farooq Shaikh were some of the eminent participants of Heritage 2008. Shabani Azmi and Farooq Shaikh play “Tumhari Amrita” was a major attraction during the cultural fiesta at Heritage 2008. Internationally acclaimed and winners of several awards, “Tumhari Amrita” is a love story of the two characters of the play. The uniqueness of Tumhari Amrita lies in the beautiful portrayal of the love story by way of just love letters. The stars won the hearts of the audience with their performances during the play and were felicitated at the hands of Padmashree G P Chopra in the presence of DAV Group’s Regional Director Dr. K B Kushal. It didn’t come as a surprise that Union Minister for Science and Technology Kapil Sibal enthralled the audience with his address that included interesting stories that he shared with the youth. The Minister touched the hearts of all present with two poems written by him. Union Minister Kapil Sibal once again reminded the audience that he is a rare silver-tongued orator of present times. At the end of it all, held under the dynamic vision and leadership of DAV Groups’ Regional Director Dr. K B Kushal DIEMR’s Heritage 2008 was a charming reflection of what a poet had once said that “India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great grand mother of tradition. Our most valuable and most astrictive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only!” Zeba Warsia – NMTV News.
