Observing the International year of Astronomy, DAV Public School New Panvel held a science festival in it school premises. Excitement, enthusiasm, energy and the interest for innovation marked the days celebrations. Sana Warsia reports. Four hundred years prior, Galileo Galili was the first person to point the telescope upward towards the sky and explore an entire new world. Hence, the year 2009 has been marked as the International Year of Astronomy. Under this, DAV Public School, New Panvel in association with the Indian Planetary Society held a science festival in the school’s premises. The festival was inaugurated in a grand ceremony which began with a prayer song. Present during the inauguration as the chief guest was Dr. Arnab Kumar Ray, a senior scientist and researcher at TIFR, Dr. J J Rawal – President of the Indian Planetary Society, Professor Sudesh Sharma and the man behind all unique and dynamic DAV initiatives – Dr. K B Kushal, the Regional Director of DAV Group of Institutions in the Western Region along with DAV Public School, New Panvel’s Principal Alka Lokre. The school under the International astronomy year celebrated astronomy by way of innovative exhibits and projects which was inaugurated by the dignitaries. Under the able guidance of Dr. K B Kushal, students from the pre-primary section to the higher education were given a platform through this science festival to explore and discover their talents, bringing about new creations and innovations. The dignitaries were all impressed with the presentation of the students and shared their thoughts with us. We also caught up with Dr. K B Kushal who spoke on the importance of such festivals and events. And the end of the day, we caught up with excited students and teachers who spoke about the preparations and the team work that is required for the projects to be a success.
