The Muslims at Sanpada are disappointed that despite demands, CIDCO is not allotting them plot to build a mosque. Year after year the number of Muslims is increasing but there has been no respite as they offer Eid prayers on footpaths. There is a large number of Muslims living in Turbhe and Sanpada area. Every Friday, nearly 1500 Muslims residing in these nodes offer prayers. Presently, these Muslims are offering prayers on the terrace of a madrasa in this node, as they have no other option. The Muslims have come together under the banner of the Tanjimul Muslimeen Society and have been demanding that CIDCO allot them plot for building a mosque. They have also appealed to Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh and Guardian Minister Ganesh Naik to look into their demands. But, so far all their appeals and cry have gone unheard. The Muslims have been facing the same problem for the last 12 years. But the problem aggravates every 12 years. Evidently, the biggest festival of this community sees thousands of Muslims coming together for the Eid prayers. And so, the Muslims every year have to avail the pavements and footpaths for offering prayers. This year being no different, Seeing the proportion of Muslims in the city, CIDCO has failed to provide them the needed space. As a result one can see Muslims offering prayers outside mosques in every node of the city and in several places in open, on open grounds, pavements and footpaths, examples being Sanpada and APMC Market. Though, there isn’t much hue and cry by the community on this issue, CIDCO’s apathy definitely is hurting the community’s sentiments.
