Increase in downpour has raised the water level of lakes in Mumbai, but MCGM does not want to give up its earlier plans to use artificial methods, such as cloud seeding, to deal with the shortage of water in the city. The Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai has decided to use both manual as well as aircraft methods for inducing artificial rainfall. The manual cloud seeding will be started next week, which will be performed by Shantilal Mackoni of Mackoni Enterprises. Next month, the Agni Aviation Consultants, a Bangalore-based firm will begin cloud seeding using aircraft. The experiment by Mackoni will cost Rs16 lakh for 20 experiments at Tansa and Modak Sagar, whereas that by the Agni Aviation will cost Rs48 crore for 45 days. Standing committee chairman Ravindra Waikar informed that the proposal will be presented before the standing soon and it will be accepted by the standing.
