While MCGM is claiming to be carrying out its nullah cleaning work in full force, the residents of Golibaar Santacruz fear that lack of nullah cleaning in their area may become a cause of water logging this monsoon. To tackle the issue of poor quality of work and incomplete work by MCGM contractors, MCGM Standing Committee had directed its members to keep a stern watch on defaulting contractors. Despite this, the Golibaar area at Santacruz seems to have evaded the members’ scrutiny because not just negligence was seen by the civic body in the construction of a building under the SRA scheme but even nullah cleaning in the area had not been upto the mark. Residents voiced that along with water logging, diseases such as malaria and dengue may also spread during monsoon. Another area where residents are fearing water logging is Kherwadi in Bandra. The length of the main nullah located at Bandra east between Khairwadi and Santacruz is 4 to 5 kilometers which has not been cleaned. The residents informed that they have been staying in this area since 40 years but have never witnessed the development of this region and are not even hoping for it. The dilapidated condition of roads and the unclean drains have irked the locals. According to them, upto 4 to 5 feet water level will get accumulated in this area.
