And even as the government was declaring the delay in opening the bid inside, a protest of Dharavi residents was witnessed outside the MHADA office. The Dharavi Re-development project has been facing opposition from a section of Dharavi residents. More than a hundred representatives of residents took out a morcha to the Mhada office, complaining they had been kept out of the decision-making process. The protesting residents said that there are many contradictions and complications in the project. Only 35% of the slum dwellers seem to be eligible for the project and the government has not considered 35,000 families living on lofts and first floors, informed the protestors.
