Thirteen children were bit by a stray dog at Vashi. But what is more worrying is that the NMMC’s only dog van was out of the city for repair and the department claims that they have caught the dog. There is reason to the fear of residents of Sector 9 Vashi – one stray dog that bit 13 children in 3 hours is on the loose. The incident took place at Ambedkar garden when children were playing cricket. A black stray dog bit 1 child and even before the local ward office could get into action 13 children were already bitten by the dog. To the utter shock of residents, the ward office informed that the only van NMMC uses for catching stray dog was out of the city for repair and maintenance. A helpless ward officer informed that on their part they had sent 4 teams to nab the dog. It however remained a wonder how the teams would catch the dog without the van. According to reports, the dog is still on the loose. And this is the reason why there is fear in the locality. Unfortunately, when it comes to taking away hawkers stuff and doing collections, a team of ward officials and police will be most active but at such times of emergencies all they have for the public are excuses for failure to perform duty.
