greeting1Its Christmas time and New Years is just round the corner. It is a time when people make a beeline for shops and galleries to wish their dear ones through greeting cards, but this year the festive mood is a little toned down. Christmas seems to be treading softly in Mumbai this year. Many people who would otherwise have bought sacks of Christmas gifts and sent glossy-red cards to relatives and friends, are choosing to keep it simple. While greeting cards adorned with Santas, Christmas bells and hollies are arrayed in most shops in the city, there are noticeably fewer takers, and gifts shops say that the sale of cards, along with other Christmas gifts, has dropped down. Some shopkeepers also stated that many people even preferred to SMS their wishes rather than buy a card. And retailers are feeling the pinch. The usual haunts like Archies and Satyam collections are not seeing the usual spate of card-shoppers. With Kala Jadhav, Pradnya Mhatre for NMTV News.
