Security guards of municipal schools have not been paid their wages for 4 months. One of the richest corporations of the state says that shortage of the funds is the reason. It is a dispute over the differences of Rs. 100 for cleaning allowance due to which the State Security Committee is not willing to accept the payment that NMMC is issuing to them. As a result security guards stationed at municipal schools at Nerul, Airoli, Sanpada and Turbhe have not been paid their wages since October 2007. The security guards anyways are grieved that they are being paid Rs. 3900 as against the Rs. 5400 promised but even that amount is not given on time. Defending their side, DMC Amrish Patnigire – in charge of education board says that the state security committee should have sat for discussions before rejecting the payment sent. On other hand, industrialist Ram Vichare – who is NMMC Education Committee Chairman, had absolutely no idea about the plight of the security guards. The Education Committee Chairman is ignorant more so as every time the security guards went to his office to meet him, the industrialist and builder was busy with business assignments. Meanwhile, the security guards stand post at municipal schools with little hopes of earning their dues on time due to bureaucratic ego battles.
