Leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly Eknath Khadse accused the state government of having a nexus with certain builders to bag slum rehabilitation projects involving Rs50,000 crore. Naming a few prominent developers, Leader of Opposition Eknath Khadse has alleged that the government had modified its norms to favour certain builders to bag slum rehabilitation projects involving Rs50,000 crore. He said that a 40-hectare plot in Sion was allotted to a developer in just one-and-a-half month. The project allotment for the rehabilitation of 20,000 hutments was very suspicious, he said. Khadse said chief minister Ashok Chavan’s office had made special efforts to get the project awarded to the developer. He claimed that a plot of 88,189 square metres at MIDC, Marol, was allotted to the same developer for a slum rehabilitation project. Khadse alleged high handedness by the developer in-charge of the Tulsiwadi SRA project. He also alleged that the Maharashtra Housing and Area Development Authority was to develop an SRA project in Kandivli, but suddenly withdrew to favour a developer. Chief minister Ashok Chavan is yet to reply to all allegations. With cameraperson Vinayak Dalvi, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
