ELECTION UPDATES – NAVI MUMBAI POLICE SENDS NOTICES TO DEPOSIT WEAPONS PRIOR ELECTIONS

SCHOOL EXAMINATION DAY COINCIDES WITH VOTING DAY This time the voting day of April 11 is coinciding with the degree examinations of Mumbai University. This means that some polling stations will also be used as examination centers on that day. While the ratio of polling stations is 99 percent school and only 1 percent colleges but it’s the 1 percent that NMMC has to tackle since in these centers students would come to write examinations. ACTION TAKEN AGAINST ELECTION CODE OF CONDUCT VIOLATIONS Dr. Babasaheb Ranjane is NMMC man in charge of ensuring that there are no violations of election code of conduct. The officer informs that so far they have initiated action against banners and posters. He said that if there is any one violating election code of conduct, then his squad initiates action against them. WEAPONS BEING DEPOSITED WITH NAVI MUMBAI POLICE On the other hand, the Navi Mumbai Crime Branch too is busy as many are queuing up to deposit their guns with the police in lieu of election rules. DCP Crime D T Shinde they have given exemption to those needing weapons for bank security and who are having threat to life. The dept. has also sent notices for others to deposit their weapons. The weapons have to be deposited latest by the last date of nomination filing. He added that according to rules, they first send notices to individuals and give them a notice period of 7 days to deposit weapons.
