MCGM’s Law Committee and Education Committee went in for elections. We spoke to the newly elected Chairmen of both the committees to know what is on their priority list post election. There are 1393 municipal schools in Mumbai with 4, 60, 854 students belonging different caste and religions pursuing education in these schools. There are 13134 teachers teaching in these schools. The education board that looks after the functioning of these schools and BJP’s Dr Ram Barot has been elected as the Chairman of the Education Committee. The Chairman’s new mission is to provide as many libraries as possible in municipal schools and also to start a campaign to promoting mother tongue language. The Chairman also says that besides these, the routine work of distributing 27 necessary items to students including notebooks, raincoats, boots and uniforms is also that he wants should happen smoothly under his supervision. On the other hand Shiv Sena’s Ramakant Rahate has been appointed as the Chairman of MCGM’s law committee. In an interview, he informed that a sum of Rupees 100 Crore has been sanctioned for the beautification and modernization of Octroi check post. There are more than 1.5 lakh cases pending at MCGM’s law court. The newly elected Chairman says that revamping the public image of the law committee is on hi priority list.
