With complaints of meter tampering on the rise, the government has decided to install electronic meters in taxis. The Government Of Maharashtra has proposed to introduce electronic Meters on all taxis from August onwards. The aim is to address the problem of increasing complaints of meter tampering. The taxis union, however, has raised objection to the proposals. They say that unlike the present meters that are available for Rs. 100 in the market, the new electronic meters will cost them Rs. 6000 and they will have to change the meters every time there is an increase in rates.
