Eman Ahmed to be discharged as doctors refuse to treat her

The row between Saifee Hospital’s doctors and Eman Abd El Aty’s sister Shaimaa may end soon, but not on a healthy note.

Aparna Bhasker, section chief of bariatric surgery of Saifee hospital, “Eman will be shifted to Burjeel hospital in the first week of May.”

Eman, who weighed more than 500kg when she arrived in Mumbai in a cargo plane, is likely to be taken to Burjeel Hospital in Abu Dhabi for further treatment in the first
week of May. She now weighs 176.6 kg, good enough to fly like any normal passenger.

A team from VPS Healthcare which runs Burjeel Hospital visited Saifee Hospital to see Eman’s reports. Shaimaa said she wanted to take her sister to Abu Dhabi because the 12 doctors who were treating Eman resigned after her video criticising bariatric surgeon Muffazzal Lakdawala went viral. She had accused the doctor of making false claims about her sister’s weight loss.

The team shared Eman’s medical reports with the visiting doctors. They met the patient while she was undergoing physiotherapy sessions.

Meanwhile, Saifee hospital also invited a team of experts from various medical fields to visit Eman and review her health condition. The doctors want a third party opinion on her condition as her sister’s allegations have upset many doctors treating her.

Last month, Eman underwent her first bariatric surgery in which doctors reduced two-third of her stomach size. Tests showed she has a rare gene mutation that cannot be cured through surgery.
