Taking serious cognisance of the fateful accident on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway in which 16 persons were killed, the Highway Safety Patrol has started a drive to check all vehicles for driving above speed limits and carrying passengers above its capacity. Excess passengers are being offloaded and made to take public transport and drivers are being penalized in the new drive started by the Highway Safety Patrol post the tragic accident last Sunday morning that killed 16 persons at Kalamboli on the Expressway. It may be recalled that Trax Jeep that crashed into a trailer on had been speeding. Also, while it could seat only eight people, it had been crammed with 19 people. The HSP of Thane has formed a team of officials including police personnel, RTO officers and police officials from local police stations, to crackdown on such vehicles.
