The governor was speaking post the 3rd convocation ceremony of the Dr. D Y Patil University. Eminent luminaries who added glitters to the 3rd convocation ceremony of the Dr. D Y Patil University included the Governor of Maharashtra S C Jamir and the Chancellor of the Dr. D Y Patil Group Padmshree Dr. D Y Patil and Vijay Patil and Ajinkya Patil – Members of the Board of Management. This year there were three recipients for the university’s honorary doctorates. Minister of Sheila Bappoo – Minister of Social Security, Republic of Mauritius collected the doctorate on behalf of the Prime Minister of Mauritius Dr. Navinchandra Ramgoolam who was honored doctorate of science. MD of the Maharashtra Airport Authority and former MD of CIDCO R C Sinha was conferred Doctorate of Literature. And world renowned cricketer and former Indian Capt. Sunil Gavaskar was conferred with the doctorate of science. The university conferred degrees to students of the faculty of medicine, dentistry, science and technology, management and education. While there were many reasons that made the 3rd convocation ceremony of the Dr. D Y Patil University a memorable occasion for the young graduates of the students, the one that creating a lasting impression on all present were the thought provoking and inspiring speeches delivered by the eminent luminaries on the occasion. After receiving his honorary doctorate, Sunil Gavaskar made a rather interesting speech that touched line of humor that was acknowledged by the audience. Sunil Gavaskar said as a kid he wanted to become a doctor but soon realized that he didn’t have the kidneys to become a doctor and so started concentrating on cricket inspired by his uncle. In his introductory speech, Vijay Patil called Sunil Gavaskar a statistician’s delight. Referring to this Sunil Gavakaskar narrated an incident and thanked Vijay Patil for his complimenting introduction to the cricketer. Sunil Gavaskar concluded his speech with a message to all the young graduates. Speaking to the media later, Sunil Gavaskar said that he was deeply honored by this recognition. The Governor of Maharashtra made some very significant remarks in his speech during the ceremony. The Governor said that like Swami Vivekananda had said, “Education is the manifestation of the perfection already in man.” He said India needs education by which character is formed, strength of mind is increased and by which one can stand on one’s feet. Giving a message to the young graduates, Governor S C Jamir said the students are going to enter the exciting world where their strength to cope with challenges will define successes and failures in their lives. Later, speaking in exclusive interview to NMTV News, Maharashtra Governor S C Jamir, said that his message for students is “face the world with courage”. Pointing at the magnificent stadium built by the Dr. D Y Patil group, the Governor said that the stadium was the stadium was a proof of the exemplary work that Padmashree Dr. D Y Patil and his sons Ajeenkya and Vijay Patil are doing in the field of education and sports. Apart from acknowledging the work being done by the Dr. D Y Patil Group, the Governor appreciated the people the university had chosen for honorary doctorate this year and said that they were deserving people and this was in recognition of their services that will encourage youngsters to emulate these icons. Even Sunil Gavaskar backed the Governor on this and praised the work that the Dr. D Y Patil family has done in especially in Navi Mumbai. We spoke to the members of the Dr. D Y Patil family, Vijay Patil, Ajeenkya Patil and their sister Dr. Nandita Palshetkar on the acknowledgment of their work by the Governor S C Jamir and Sunil Gavaskar. They also gave a message to the students who have graduated from the university. Students must face recession with hard work. Beyond any doubts, the contribution of the Padmashree Dr. D Y Patil family to the field of education and sports is immense and especially in Navi Mumbai, their work deserves honor and respect.
