Following the Mayor’s reprimand, MCGM Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya sounded a warning that failure to fix leakages in pipelines could result in suspension of errant water works officials. At a time when the city is reeling under one of the worst water crisis, MCGM Commissioner Swadheen Kshatriya has got tough and has warned that failure to fix leakages in pipelines could result in suspension of errant water works officials. The civic chief also said that he’d take disciplinary action against all the officers who don’t act on complaints of water theft. A circular to this effect is currently being drafted and is likely to come into effect next week. The move comes after mayor Shraddha Jadhav took up the issue during a political group leaders’ meeting. Kshatriya told the mayor that he’d issue a circular to officers in all wards, asking them to fix a leak within 48 hours of it being reported and take action against offenders within 2 days of a complaint being registered. The Commissioner has ordered that the Asst. Engineer of the hydraulic department of the concerned ward would be suspended in case no action is taken. The inquiry will be carried on after suspension. On the other hand, officials from the hydraulic department say that their hands are often tied, mainly because of political pressure. With bureau inputs, Sana Warsia for NMTV News.
