FIR against Namdeo Bhagat for molesting 19 year old girl

Navi Mumbai woke up to the shocking report today of FIR against Namdeo Bhagat for allegedly molesting a 19-year-old girl in Uran area near Mumbai. The Uran Police have filed an FIR under Indian Penal Section (IPC) Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty). 51-year-old Namdeo Bhagat had defected from the Congress party to Shiv Sena in the last NMMC elections. He is also a former Director of CIDCO.

A Shiv Sena corporator & Standing Committee member
One of the senior most corporators of NMMC, Namdeo Bhagat Bhagat and his daughter Poonam Patil are Standing Committee members. While initial reports indicated that he has been absconding, an official statement from the police is still awaited. This is not the first scandals involving a politician of the city.

Namdeo Bhagat’s political record stained
At a time when women safety in India is in a state of crisis, its disheartening and hugely disappointing to report that a public representative, who has been elected to safeguard the interest of citizens of a community, has been embroiled in a case of molestation that stains his public conduct record and puts a question mark on their morals and values.

Bravo Navi Mumbai police
Credit also goes to present Commissioner of Police Sanjay Kumar as often its easy for influential politicians to get away with cases of women harassment and molestation. It’s not for nothing that experts and activists polled this year by the Thomson Reuters Foundation perceived India as the world’s most dangerous place for women. If the charges are proved, it will be crucial to see how the case is brought to its logical justice, thereby laying as a deterrent in the interest of women safety in Navi Mumbai.

Challenge for voters
Both the selfie scandal and FIR against Namdeo Bhagat pose a challenge for voters in Navi Mumbai. Unless they choose a candidate on merit & character as their representative, safety of their daughters, mother & wives will always be in danger. Bureau report – NMTV News.
