MCGM had to call for an immediate meeting when the local corporator Fajlu Rehman Chaudhary residing near the Deonar dumping ground informed the civic body about the problems caused due to this dumping ground. For the last 1.5 months, there has been fire at the Deonar dumping ground and the smoke emancipating from this has made life hell for the residents. The cause of the fire is due to a scientific method that was conducted here and for the last 1.5 months, the fire has not been able to settle down. Many residents are falling ill due to the smoke and the ire residents have decided to come down on the streets to prevent from dumping trucks to reach the ground. According to Chaudhary, the corporation was skimming Crores of rupees in the name of tree plantation, security guards and deorants sprays. Acting upon this grave issue, MCGM Standing Committee Chairman Ravindra Waikar immediately called for a meeting and ordered the officials to settle down the fire. According to corporator Rahul Shewale, a medical survey of the area revealed that cases of Asthama, TB and cancer were on the rise here. He alleged that since poor people were residing near this dumping ground, MCGM was showing lax attitude towards the problem. While MCGM Additional Commissioner Madhav Sangle accepted that for the past few days fire was at the dumping ground, he stated that it was controlled to some extent.
