Following the commendable work by Mumbai Fire Brigade personnel at Taj Hotel during the terror attack, MCGM has increased the firemen’s risk allowance from Rs50 to Rs500. The MCGM Standing Committee has approved the proposal to increase the risk allowance of the Mumbai Fire Brigade, along with a hike in 24-hour duty allowance. While 55 senior officers in Mumbai Fire Brigade were getting Rs1,400 to Rs2,000 as risk allowance, the firemen got only Rs20 to Rs50. With the increase of the amount for the firemen, the officers’ allowance too were hiked. They will now get Rs3,500 to Rs5,000, depending on their posts. Standing committee chairman Ravindra Waikar stated that for the safety of Mumbaikars, firemen put their lives in danger and that it is our duty to compensate them by increasing their allowances. The decision has obviously welcomed by the Fire Brigade department. Bureau report NMTV.
