FIRST TIME MLAS MAY NOT GET CABINET BERTHS

first-time-mlasCongress president Sonia Gandhi will decide the fate of state Congress President Manikrao Thakre, Mumbai Congress Chief Kripashankar Singh and President Pratibha Patil’s son Raosaheb Shekhawat for inclusion in the state cabinet, which is likely to be constituted. As per Congress rules, a person can hold only one post at a time, so both State Congress President Manikrao Thakre and Mumbai Congress Chief Kripashankar Singh are not under consideration. However, Sonia Gandhi can step in to make an exception for both. Significantly, both Congress and NCP have decided not to give berths to first time legislators. Prominent among first-time legislators knocking on AICC doors for berths are the Presidents’s son Rajendra Shekhawat, Amit Deshmukh, son of Union heavy industries minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, Praniti Shinde, daughter of Union minister of power Sushilkumar Shinde, and Yashomati Thakur and Rajiv Satav, both members of the Rahul brigade. Some of the senior names likely to become cabinet members are Chandrakant Handore, Suresh Shetty, Naseem Khan, Baba Siddiqui, Narayan Ran, Patangrao Kadam, Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil and Harshavardhan Patil. The crisis-ridden NCP is all set to retain most cabinet members. While Chhagan Bhujbal has already been elected to the NCP legislature party, state NCP president R R Patil, who was sacked over the 26/11 attack, may stage a comeback with the home portfolio. Others who will be retained are Jayant Patil, Dilip Walse Patil, Ajit Pawar, Sunil Tatkare, Ganesh Naik, Vimal Mundhada and Rajesh Tope. Bureau report – NMTV News.
