Milk-3Will it make a come back or will it not? That was the million dollar question in the flavored milk scheme and after all the controversies; the answer is affirmative. The decision of distributing flavored milk amongst students of municipal schools got the biggest setback when 48 students took to ill after consuming the milk. After facing a lot of flag due to this, BMC decided to set up an enquiry committee to investigate the matter. However, even before the enquiry committee could start its investigations, the way the flavored milk scheme was supported by the BMC Mayor, Municipal Commissioner and other Standing Committee members, looked like the enquiry committee was set up just to complete formalities without having any intention of actually getting down to the truth. The same happened when the enquiry committee released its report giving a green signal to the flavored milk scheme. In the report, the enquiry committee claimed that the reason the students took ill was because of the flavor of the milk and not the milk itself. Along with the enquiry report, many conditions have been set forth which can prove to be a cause of concern for the municipal schools teachers as the responsibility of distributing fresh and clean flavored milk amongst students has been given over to them. They have also requested students to not drink milk from packets picked up from the floor or through straws. Indirectly it is clear that the corporation hs already found ways to be on the safe side if such an incident happens once again. We spoke with some distinguished corporators of BMC, who had this to say about the decision. When we quested about the responsibility being increased for teachers, many of them went in favor of it. The President of the enquiry committee, Dr. Sanjay Olk gave information about the enquiry report. Although the enquiry report has come out in favor of the flavored milk scheme but the way the Mayor, Commissioner and other members of the corporation were supporting the scheme from day one, eyebrows are raised at the authenticity of the report.
