FORMER INDIAN HOCKEY PLAYER MIR RANJAN NEGI IN THE CITY

hocky-1The culmination ceremony of the Navi Mumbai Olympics 2008 was held at the father Agnels ground. The main highlight of the evening was the ring hockey match between celebrities. The match was played by Chak De fame’s former Indian Hockey player Mir Ranjan Negi, Shanraj Pillai’s brother Ramesh Pillai, India under 19 Team coach Clarance Lobo and Nasir Khan. The ring hockey match was held between Ramesh Pillai Nine team and Clarence Lobo nine team, in which, Clarence Lobo nine team stood victorious. Speaking about the need of promoting hockey in India, they said that training and awareness should be started at the school level. Around 10000 people participated in this Olympics competition which included games like football, hockey, cricket, kabbadi and chess amongst others. Koperkhairane’s King won the third place whereas the second winner were Nerul’s Ninjas and the first place was won by Vashi’s Vikings. We also spoke exclusively with Mir Ranjan Negi during the event. The competition started from 9th February infused enthusiasm and encouraged the aspiring hockey players to play to the fullest.
