Fr. Agnel’s Gymkhana football club from Navi Mumbai has made it to the Senior Division of Mumbai District Football Association League. After a city based hockey team made it to third division of Bombay Hockey Association, it was the turn of a football team to grab limelight. Father Agnel’s Gymkhana Football club is now the first club from Navi Mumbai to make it to the senior division of the Mumbai District Football Association League. Coach Jerome Dias was all praise for the team that is comprised mostly of students who are either into school or into their graduation and diploma. The players are on cloud nine after the achievement. According to captain Ankit Singh it is a dream come true and hopes are high that the team will be able to keep up the good form in the senior division as well. The road towards this success was far from rosy. Having gone down by 4-0 in the first match followed by a draw in the second match every match from thereon was a do or die encounter. The team lived upto the challenge and won three matches on the trot to make entry into the senior division. Both the coaches showed confidence in the talent reserve in Navi Mumbai. When asked about India’s performance in soccer at the international arena, the air of optimum could not be missed in the voice of coaches as well as players. With such a firebrand attitude on the part of players, the day when we shall see India play in the FIFA World Cup may not be very far from now.
