While Rs 1 crore had been allotted for the maintenance of municipal schools in Thane, TMC has admitted that it has been utilizing the funds for different purposes. Here is a report. Having a budget of Rupees 1200 crore, every year TMC allots a fund of Rupees 1 crore as a maintenance of the municipal schools. But surprisingly, these funds are being used for different purposes for the last 10 years. The TMC Education Department has now issued orders for a further investigation. There are in all 127 schools in Thane city out of which 23 schools are registered as municipal schools. According to Suresh Gada, TMC has failed to look after the maintenance of the schools.
