GOVANDI LOCALS GO ON HUNGER STRIKE OVER SHORTAGE OF WATER

Govandi-1With 30% cut in water supply in Govandi for the last 14 months, the residents have taken to streets and went on a hunger strike to protest this injustice. Around 15 lakh residents of this area falling under the Trombay state constituency were replaced during the SRA development. Giving a boost to the already high population, MCGM’s decision of cutting down water supply by 15% in the area had added to the woes of the locals. MCGM is also developing a 6 mld water tank in the area but the construction of the tank that was to be completed on 15 August is still incomplete. The frustrated residents have now gone on a hunger strike under the leadership of MP Adv. Yusuf Abrahni. The locals have stated that they would be on a hunger strike till their problem is not resolved. With cameraperson Vinayak Dalvi, Mushtaq Khan for NMTV News.
