Ganesh Krupa Mitra Mandal and Sanjeevani Mahila Utkarsha Mandal had organized a haldi kum kum programme for the women in the city. It was a programme jointly conducted by Bharat Nakhate and his wife Vaishali Nakhate. On this occasion were present Navi Mumbai Mayor Anjani Bhoir, former Mayor Dr Sanjeev Naik and corporators of several nodes. Haldi Kum Kum is mainly held at the time of Makar Sankranti. This can be conducted on any day between Makar Sankranti and Ratha Saptami. It is said that haldi kum kum is conducted for married women and it is considered as a method of giving respect to women. This tradition was held jointly by Ganesh Kripa Mitra Mandal and Sanjeevani Mahila Utkarsha Mandal with the aim to unite women. The event started with the traditional lamp lighting ceremony by Mayor Anjani Bhoir, Dr Sanjeev Naik and other corporators and social activists. Many cultural programmes were also conducted, in which children performed dance on various numbers. We spoke to Vaishali Nakhate, who gave us more insight and explained the importance of such get together programmes for women. We also spoke to corporator Bharat Nakhate who advocated women power and strength and said that today women are better in everything they do and should be given a fair opportunity to prove themselves.
