Finally the Mumbai High Court has taken cognizance of the matter and has demanded explanation from the state and CIDCO for failing to do so. The Mumbai High Court has sent notices to the state government and CIDCO for providing 3% reservation to disabled in its housing schemes Vastu Vihar and Celebrations. The decision comes in wake of a PIL filed by an NGO demanding to provide 3% reservation to disabled in housing schemes as per the rules laid down by state on 25th July 2007. The construction of the 2 projects, Vastuvihar and Celebration, in sector 16-17 of Kharghar, has commenced recently. About 2144 houses are going to be built by the CIDCO and while there is 30% reservations for ST, SC and backward classes, CIDCO has failed to abide by the rules and provide 3% reservation for the disabled. The Mumbai High Court has sent notices to CIDCO and state government ordering them to send an explanation for failing to do so before the 4th of June. The petitioner’s lawyer has demanded that CIDCO should either change its scheme or issue out new forms. In addition to that, he has also protested that the ongoing work should be put to a halt. The next date for the hearing is fixed for the 4 June 2008. NIlofar Shaikh NMTV
