BMC’s new Hawker Zone has been highly opposed by the hawkers who claim that BMC has been maneuvering their livelihood under the pretext of Hawker Zone. To tackle and growing number of hawkers in Mumbai city, BMC has planned to develop 25 zones for them. Not surprisingly, the decision is being opposed by hawkers who say that their fathers & forefathers were working here for last 50 to 60 years and they will face unemployment, if they were shifted from their place. Raising objections on the same, the hawkers have decided to approach the High Court in hopes of justice. This policy of BMC would have an adverse effect on their businesses as the thousands of hawkers would be shifted near an industrial area where the hawkers cannot carry out their business. Plus the lottery system makes things more dicey, they say. With cameraperson Lahu, Shailendra Upadhyay for NMTV News.
