HC ASKS STATE GOVERNMENT TO MAKE STATEMENT ON DOCTOR’S STRIKE

resdent-doctorsA bench of the Mumbai High Court has directed the Maharashtra government to make a statement on the resident doctors’ strike on July 13. Reacting to media queries on the subject during his weekly press conference, MCGM Commissioner Dr. Jairaj Pathak stated that they could not do anything in the matter as the wages, norms to be followed by the doctors was given out by the state and the civic body had no involvement. A division bench while taking up the petition moved by Nagpur Jan Manch demanding that striking doctors should be expelled, asked authorities to file a statement on Monday. The petitioners’ lawyer stated that resident doctors had given an undertaking before a High Court bench that they would not resort to strike, when a petition on the same lines was filed in 2006 by Jan Manch. At the time of their agreement with Medical Council of India, resident doctors had agreed not to put any conditions while serving. Resident doctors across the state, under the banner of Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors (MARD), are on strike from Tuesday night demanding higher stipend, better living conditions and better security among other things.
