HC PLANS HEARING ON MISSING KIDS

baby-kidnappingConcerned over the rising number of cases of missing children, the Mumbai high court plans to conduct a special hearing in the matter by following a strategy to deal with the issue. The judges directed the court staff to club all cases that relate to missing children and place them for hearing. While some are cases of children who were kidnapped by strangers, others are instances of parental child abduction-where a parent or relative kidnaps the child to frustrate custody proceedings. During a hearing of one such case, the judges had warned the police not to shield rich and influential people who are named as suspects. One of the high-profile case before the court is the petition filed by Chembur couple Mohan and Mohini Nerurkar whose new-born son was kidnapped from the maternity ward of Sion hospital in January this year. While MCGM has deposited Rs 5 lakh towards compensation for the couple, the court has also formed a committee to frame guidelines to beef up security at hospitals. Bureau report – NMTV News.
