The Mumbai High Court seeks an explanation from the state government for filling the prisons of the state more than their capacity. The Mumbai High Court has also asked for an explanation from the state on the pathetic condition of the prisoners in jails. It has asked the state to provide it with the details of the actions taken by the government for improving their conditions. As per the reports, there are in all 37 jails. But these jails lack basic facilities such as medical facilities due to which there is a huge toll of death of prisoners. Reports also state that 37 jails could accommodate around 17 thousand 931 prisoners but they are over-crowded with 35 thousand prisoners.
