HEAVY VEHICLES STILL PLY DESPITE BAN ON BRIDGE AT JNPT URAN ROAD

Despite heavy vehicles ban on the bridge at Uran phata leading to JNPT, heavy vehicles ply here. The Navi Mumbai Traffic Dept. says that its request to CIDCO to construct a height barrier here years ago has still not been complied with. The Kille Junction to JNOT – Uran and six lane Nhave Sheva road is seeing massive road construction activities going on here. The roads on this route hence reel under highly pathetic conditions. This coupled with traffic has made the route an accident prone zone. Despite the Navi Mumbai Traffic Police taking stern actions on violating motorists, the scenario does not change. Taking cognizance of the same, on 18 September 2000, an order was passed banning heavy vehicles to ply from this route. But the order is openly violated as heavy vehicles dot this route. The Navi Mumbai Traffic Police had sent a request letter to CIDCO to construct height barriers on this route, but the latter never took up the work. Navi Mumbai Traffic Head ACP Nandkumar Chougele says that now CIDCO might take up the work.
