The landmark judgment of the Mumbai High Court is one of the biggest set backs for the construction industry. While the shock to residents living on the forest cover is yet to settle, it also hints at the what the future holds for such constructions on forest land in Navi Mumbai. These are the faces of residents who are in a state of shock ever since they heard of the court’s decision that has made their homes illegal. They are living the worst nightmares of any home buyer. They voiced their anguish to just about anyone who meet them on the subject. Its’ not these buildings but also the settlements on the forest land in Mumbai that are in fear of their homes being taken away from them. The High Court’s decision should be a lesson for home buyers in Navi Mumbai where hundreds of projects are coming up on mangrove land and CRZ area – both that come under forest land. While several cases against such projects are pending in court, in several other nodes builders are building on forest land and ignorant buyers are investing their life savings on buying homes in such projects. If taken to court, several projects including the elite Vanashree on Palm Road and hundreds of other projects will be declared illegal for being built on forest land. Since at the end of the day, it is the loss of the common buyers, it is them who should be most vigilant of fraud builders. As far as authorities and leaders are concerned, the least said the better.
