standing-comm-3The Bhise scam ruled discussions at the weekly Standing Committee meeting. Corporator Shivram Patil raised some significant allegations about the scam when the first proposal on the Bhise scam audit was presented before the members for approval. He demanded the scam figure and said that it’s a wonder why no officer been booked in the scam so far despite names of many senior officials from DMC N N Alhat to former DMC Amrish Patnigire to Asst. Municipal Commissioner Diwakar Samel cropping up time and again. Commissioner Vijay Nahata informed the members that the scam figure had reached over Rs 3 Crores 30 lacs. Other members including Namdeo Bhagat, J D Sutar and Vijay Mane also spoke on the scam. The discussions concluded with Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik staying the first as important it was to book the accused in the case and recover the loss amount, equally important it is to make a conclusive report on the scam that lists the accurate scam figure, the irregularities, fixation of responsibilities and reforms needed in the department. Speaking to NMTV News, Chairman Sandeep Naik said that it is true that the Bhise audit have been done with notings that all required documents were not provided and the audit has been done based on the documents made available. That’s why its necessary to get the accurate scam figures. He said that there is a need for a separate audit wing and more measures to be put into place. He said that the proposal has been stayed will they get the auditor’s report as demanded by members. Another important issue was raised on the proposal of the revised tender approval for construction of Manisha Vidyalaya in Sector 16, Vashi. Namdeo Bhagat said that when the tender approval was for Rs. 69 lakhs then how had the revised tender approval come for Rs. 1 Cr 50 lakhs approx. He demanded that the reasons that led to the amount be doubled be investigated and then the revised bid be approved. Standing Committee Chairman Sandeep Naik informed that they have stayed the proposal. Corporator Vijay Mane made another significant expose. He said that contractors in his area were laying pipelines that were not of ISI standard and since no officials were supervising the work, the contractors were painting ISI with their hands. When we questioned the Chairman on this shocking expose of poor quality work, which will eventually drain Crores of public funds, the Chairman stated that they have always demanded for vigilance and quality control dept.s.
