HIRANANDANI – FORTIS AGREEMENT ELUDES STANDING COMMITTEE

Despite the entire hullabaloo, the Hiranandani-Fortis agreement eludes Standing Committee. Sources reveal that the Commissioner held a closed door meeting on the issue of the breach of contractual terms by Hiranandani Hospital, which was protested by Standing Committee Members. In several standing committee meetings, Congress Corporator Ramakant Mhatre has been repeatedly demanding the copy of the agreement and action for violation in the Hiranandani-Fortis agreement. The municipal administration has not responded and last week the committee announced a meeting with the Municipal Commissioner to discuss the issue. Ramakant Mhatre took objection on grounds that the issue was raised in the SC meeting and the discussion should be held in this meeting and not in the commissioner’s chamber, to ensure transparency and avoid foul play, as there was nothing very confidential about the functioning of a civic hospital. However, his protest was not taken into consideration. Hiranandani Healthcare is alleged to have transferred 100% equity rights in the super specialty hospital in Vashi to Fortis Healthcare Pvt. Ltd., which is not allowed as per the agreement, it is reliably learnt. From NMMC, with cameraperson Abhay Prasad, Vishwarath Nayar for Navi Mumbai News.
